Many people eagerly anticipated the second season of Bates Motel. Would it be as crazy and suspenseful as the first season had been?
The A & E program didn’t disappoint. If anything, I thought it was even better than the first year had been. Sure the stories are over the top, but that’s part of what made it so compelling to watch. It is a great escape for an hour with a lot of suspense, and occasionally even a bit of humor.
As the season progressed, we learned more about Norman and his psychosis. His mother Norma, in many ways, is a sympathetic character as she went to extraordinary lengths to protect her son. She even had a brief romance this season. Her relationship with her other son Dylan was also interesting to watch. Dylan and Norma had a falling out and he wanted nothing to do with her. However, eventually circumstances would bring them back together and allow them to bond.
Dylan is probably one of the most “normal” people on the show, even though he was willingly involved in illegal activities. What makes Bates Motel season 2 so watchable is the excellent cast.
Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore are both deserving of Emmys. Freddie has come a long way from the innocent young boy he played in Finding Neverland.
The Bates Motel season 2 is available now. The extra DVD features include deleted scenes and an inside look at the series. Filming for the third season took place last fall, and it will resume on A & E on March 9th. The ratings remained strong and hopefully that will be the case for the third year.Buy Now
