The Black Forest area in Germany has been famous for its elaborate, well-made cuckoo clocks for centuries, and this Black Forest Cuckoo Clock with Dancers is no exception. It measures roughly 14 inches tall by 12 inches wide, and has some incredible detail.
On the left-hand side of the cuckoo clock, there is a realistic-looking waterwheel, which actually turns. In the center, is a bench, and a little dog who appears to be watching the child riding a rocking horse, on the right. The rocking horse moves too, rocking back and forth, adding to the novelty of the cuckoo clock.
The clock is made to resemble a little chalet, with shuttered windows that have heart cutouts in them. A little chimney protrudes from the rooftop, and the sloping roof is covered with wooden shingles.
In the very center, at the top, is the cuckoo bird, who announces the time. The clock has a quartz movement, so you don’t have to remember to wind it – just change the 3 “C” batteries once in a while.
Underneath the cuckoo bird, are dancers that come out on a revolving wheel when the cuckoo bird signals the hours, and the clock plays 12 different tunes – repeating one tune 2 times a day.
