If you can cook a pot of pasta, then you can make tasty, flavorful Asian noodle dishes! That’s the premise behind Helen Chen’s excellent 2010 cookbook “Easy Asian Noodles”, featuring more than 60 recipes you can learn to prepare in no time in your home kitchen. Chef Chen takes the mystery out of delicious dishes such as Spicy Peanut Sesame Noodles, Singapore Rice Sticks and Zaru Soba, beginning with an introduction to the basic types of Asian noodles, their methods of preparation and their uses. Colorful photos will tempt you to try new flavors like Japanese Curry Udon and Spicy Basil Beef Noodles, or to recreate restaurant favorites such as Pad Thai and Cantonese Pork Lo Mein.
There are comforting soup noodle dishes perfect for cold winter nights, and chilled noodle salads great for summer luncheons and picnics. I’m a big fan of the the Yaki Soba, pictured above, which is a great dish for using up lots of vegetables and making a little meat or seafood go a long way.
Of course it should come as no surprise that Helen is such a great culinary teacher and expert on Asian cuisine, as she’s the daughter of the legendary chef, restauranteur and television personality Joyce Chen.
Even if you are new to Asian cooking, this is a great little book to consider adding to your collection. Kids will love these yummy, colorful dishes as much as adults do, and it’s so much better for you than eating take-out food!Buy Now
