German Americans are the single largest ethnic group living in the United States. An estimated 50 million people can trace their roots back to Germany. The first Germans arrived in the colonies around 1670, and settled in and around New York before fanning out to the rest of the continent. Many people of German heritage settled in the Midwestern part of the country, where they earned their living as farmers.
If you or someone you know is proud of their German heritage, they’ll like the German Haus Rules plaque shown above. This decorative tile is 6 by 6-inches and has very practical rules for living, because, as you know, Germans are very practical people.
