You’re sure to learn something new from this nautical dictionary. Even if you already know about yawl, pitch and roll, grab a copy of The Sailor’s Word Book. It defines “Over 14,000 Nautical and Naval Terms.” An updated version of a 19th century classic work by William Henry Smyth, it’s still relevant today.
This dictionary of nautical terms is on my ‘to get’ list. I love the sea, and have made an effort to learn quite a few words from the language of the sea. But it’s surely nowhere near 14,000 words!
A nautical dictionary should be on your get list, too, if you’re a sea lover. For readers of maritime novels, it’s a handy reference of maritime terms. A nice gift for students of naval history, it’s available in paperback or for the Kindle.
