Catholics consider Our Lady of Guadalupe to be the “Patroness of the Americas. “This devotion is based upon an apparition of Our Blessed Mother to Saint Juan Diego, a widower who saw a beautiful lady clothed in native dress while he was walking to Mass. This happened in December of 1531.
On a hill, just outside of present-day Mexico City, Juan heard a voice calling him. He hurried to the spot where the voice originated. There, a young woman implored him to have a cathedral built upon that spot.
Although Juan’s bishop initially didn’t believe his account, a series of events led him to change his mind. One was the miraculous recovery of his uncle, whom was near death. Then, the woman pointed him toward a beautiful bush roses, which didn’t grow that time of year. He was to take these to his bishop.
Gathering the roses up in his cloak, he ran to the chancery. He opened his cloak and the roses fell out. Also, a magnificent and miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was printed on his garment.Buy Now
