Almost everyone loves pizza—it’s one of the most popular foods around the world today. But not everyone feels comfortable trying to make pizza at home. Or maybe you’ve tried and just can’t quite get that authentic pizzeria taste just right.
If so, then you might want to check out this great little cookbook by Chef Leonardo Curti and James O. Fraioli: “Pizza & Wine: Authentic Italian Recipes and Wine Pairings.” Beautifully photographed and with lots of attention to detail, this book will teach you all of the basics of pizza making: necessary tools, pizza history, making a proper pizza dough, and of course how to top your pies with delicious flavor combinations.
Beyond the traditional Margherita pizza we all know and love, there are tempting recipes to try like Eggplant Parmesan pizza; Calabrese Salami pizza; Poached Pear, Gorgonzola and Speck pizza; even King Crab with Corn and Chives pizza! There are also recipes for stuffed pizza specialties like calzones and panzerrotti, and appetizers and desserts that go well with pizza when entertaining. And of course, every recipe is listed with a suggested wine pairing, definitely a great help if you are planning on an elegant pizza party and want to impress your guests with your perfect wine selections.
Even if you don’t have your own designated pizza oven, you can prepare these delicious recipes if you have a pizza stone you can use in your regular oven to get that high heat and heat distribution just right. This book was the first one I purchased to learn how to make pizza myself and I still refer to it regularly. I definitely recommend it for anyone looking to start making pizza at home, or perhaps as a gift for an avid home cook. It’s available in Kindle format as well!
