I Stink!

During a recent visit to the library my three-year-old grandson Amante discovered his favorite book, titled “I Stink,” authored by Kate McMullan.

This comical and colorful children’s book follows a garbage truck through a night-long shift of collecting garbage in the city.

Every evening, just before bedtime I asked my grandson, “Amante, which book do you choose for your bedtime story?”

Each night he answered “I Stink!, Grandma, I Stink!”

As the nights passed Amante and his big sister Steffy quickly learned each phrase in the book and would ‘read’ along.  As the weeks passed I began to worry what would happen when it was time to return the book to the library.  The problem was solved when I found, and ordered a copy for the kids on Amazon.

I believe that the funnest part of the book are all of the stinky parts, the dirty diapers, rotten apple cores, and other unusual aromas that the kids giggled about.  And all the while Amante and Steffy received a good lesson about what really happens to all of the garbage once we are finished with it.  We also took time to talk about how all of the garbage affected the planet and what we could do to recycle and reuse because not all garbage ends up being stinky after all.
