Until recently, people in the Western Hemisphere have viewed mushrooms primarily as a condiment. However, world famous mycologist Paul Stamets, who has spent decades studying these fungi, has embarked upon a one-man crusade to spread the word that certain species of mushrooms can heal some of our most serious health problems.
Stamets also has personal experience with how mushrooms can heal. His elderly mother was once diagnosed with a very aggressive and late stage breast cancer, which was brought into remission with the help of a certain type of mushroom known as Turkey Tail.
Medicinal mushrooms, however, tend to be expensive. But there’s an alternative, if you want to invest a little time and energy. Stamets has written a book called Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms, in which he shares all of his secrets on cultivating fungi for food and for health.
